An amendment slated for the November 4, 2008 ballot could take away healthcare benefits and legal protections relied upon by our seniors, police officers and firefighters?
Amendment #2 Language:
"Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."
Florida's Constitution should not be amended to take away rights that families already rely on.
Similar "marriage protection" amendments, passed in other states, have stripped away benefits for all unmarried couples, gay and straight.
Taking away vital protections, like healthcare, from unmarried couples does nothing to protect marriage.
Help defeat Amendment #2.
